IsiZulu Language Course
Learning Outcomes
This introductory isiZulu language programme aims to provide students with:
- A basic communicative competence with respect to every day interactions, including the exchange of day to day pleasantries and personal information
- The ability to elicit assistance from mother-tongue speakers thus producing self-sufficient Zulu language learners
- The skills to enhance intercultural relations.
By the end of the programme, students will have acquired sufficient productive and receptive oral skills to be able to engage in simple, yet competent, conversations in isiZulu.
Programme Approach
- The programme starts from scratch, and is geared for people with little or no existing knowledge of isiZulu
- There is heavy emphasis on speaking and hearing the language
- Each classroom session is spent listening to and repeating after the trainer, followed by a dialogue activity
- Between classes, learners are required to spend time testing and consolidating their skills by working with the audio materials
- Learners are required to practice their skills acquired on mother-tongue speakers and to feed back their experiences and learning in class
- Audio materials, in the form of either 4 cassettes or CD’s are integral to the success of the programme, as they provide a resource for self-testing and consolidation after each lesson, and enable students to refining their skills once the programme is over.
Programme Delivery
- This is dependent on client need. Both individuals and organizations have benefited from this practical programme.
- Programmes can be customized for organizations wishing to improve isiZulu language skills amongst managers and supervisors.
